Abstract
A transparent thermosensitive recording material is provided which includes a transparent substrate, a thermosensitive recording layer formed on the substrate, and a protective layer which is formed on the thermosensitive recording layer and including a resin, wherein the protective layer has a microscopically rough surface with projections and pits in which a 95% confidence interval of a distribution of a number of sections of projections in a depth direction of the surface of the protective layer is less than about 0.5 .mu.m and a maximum number of the sections in the distribution of the number of sections is from about 100 to about 500 per 1000 .mu.m.sup.2 when the surface of the protective layer is horizontally cut 41 times at equally spaced intervals between a top of a maximum projection of the surface and a bottom of a maximum pit of the surface of the protective layer. The transparent thermosensitive recording material has high transparency, good image qualities without undesirable white streaks and good ability to be used with thermal printheads without sticking to the thermal printheads.
