Abstract
An in-line, lever actuated valve for use in a liquid filling apparatus includes a valve body having an outer surface and defining an inlet region, an outlet region and a flow chamber intermediate the inlet and outlet regions. The valve body defines a cone opening in a side wall of the valve intermediate the inlet and outlet regions. A pivotable cone member having a plunger, a lever arm and a cone shield intermediate the plunger and lever arm, is positioned with at least a portion of the cone member traversing through the cone opening and positioned within the flow chamber. The cone shield engages the outer surface of the valve body to form a seal therewith. The cone member is pivotable through an angle of about 20.degree. from an opened position to a closed position wherein the plunger forms a seal across the flow chamber. The cone shield is positioned on the lever so as to define a base angle that is about one-half of the angle that the valve cone pivots from the closed position to the opened position.
