Abstract

This invention relates to a process for the hydroxylation of napthalene to .varies. and .beta. naphthols which comprises reacting napthalene with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a solid catalyst containing an organotransition metal complex wherein some or all of the hydrogen atoms of the said organotransition metal complex have been substituted by one or more electron withdrawing group in the presence of solvents, with or without promoter and isolating the naphthols formed by conventional methods.
