Abstract

The invention provides high purity branched alkylsilsesquioxane containing fluids of the general formula Me.sub.3 SiO--(Me.sub.3 SiORSiO).sub.x --SiMe.sub.3, wherein Me is methyl, R is a monovalent hydrocarbon substituent, and x is 1 to 6, and an essentially zero waste process for their synthesis in quantitative yield; and especially n-octylsilsesquioxane containing fluids which are structural analogs of phenylsilsesquioxane containing fluids of the general formula Me.sub.3 SiO--(Me.sub.3 SiOPhSiO).sub.x --SiMe.sub.3, wherein Me is methyl, Ph is phenyl, x is 1 to 6, and have substantially identical sensory properties to their phenylsilsesquioxane counterparts.
