Abstract
A 1,2-ethanediol derivative represented by the general formula �I! or its salt: ##STR1## has a NGF activity-potentiating effect and is useful as a remedy for various diseases caused by degeneration of central nervous system or peripheral nervous system such as senile dementia of Alzheimer type, Huntington's chorea, various neuropathies, Riley-Day syndrome, traumatic nerve injury, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and the like.
