Abstract
A composition comprising a 2-acetaminoalkane-1,3-diol or its optical isomer having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a linear alkyl group having 9 to 17 carbon atoms; a 2-acylaminoalkane-1,3-diol or its optical isomer having the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 has the same meaning as given above for formula (I) and R.sub.2 represents a substituted or unsubstituted linear acyl group having 14 to 24 carbon atoms; and a compound having a sterol group. This composition forms a lamellar liquid crystal phase and can retain moisture when applied to the skin.
