Abstract

An electric machine includes a rotor and a stator, a rotor position transducer being provided to detect the position of the rotor relative to the stator. Phase windings are sequentially energizable to drive the rotor. The rotor position transducer is powered by the energization of one or more windings thus removing the need for an additional power supply for the rotor position transducer.
