Abstract
Magnetite particles that contain 0.1-5.0 wt % of P, 0.1-5.0 wt % of Al and optionally up to 5.0 wt % of Si on the basis of Fe, that have .sigma..sub.r /SSA ratio of no more than 0.9 (.sigma..sub.r, residual magnetic flux density; SSA, specific surface area) after the application of 1 kOe and that are hexahedral, octahedral or tetradecahedral in shape have a sufficiently low residual magnetic flux density that they are suitable for use as magnetic toners or resin-dispersed carriers in electrostatic copying.
