Abstract

There is disclosed a method for immobilizing an oily or non-polar substance in a concrete matrix comprising the following steps: (a) absorbing the said oily or non-polar substance into a calcined clay mineral; (b) incorporating the calcined clay mineral and absorbed oily or non-polar substance formed in step (i) in a hardenable concrete mix; and (c) permitting the resultant concrete mix to harden.
