Abstract

A method of determining the distortion of an isolated pulse. Write data signals are recorded onto a magnetic storage media. Each write data signal includes a single transition that is relatively unaffected by adjacent transitions. Readback signals, each of which corresponds to a write data signal, are read from the magnetic storage media. The shape of the write data signals are measured. The difference between the shape of each write data signal and the shape of an ideal isolated pulse is measured.
