Abstract

A vortex flowmeter has a bluff body extending across a conduit to generate vortices in a fluid flow, and a housing mounted to the conduit. A vortex sensing beam is mounted to housing and extends in cantilever fashion from the housing into the flow path separate from the bluff body. The vortex sensing beam is for sensing external vibration and for sensing vortices shed from the bluff body. A vibration sensing beam is mounted to the housing and extends in cantilever fashion away from the vortex sensing beam. The vibration sensing beam is for sensing external vibration only. In use, the outputs from the vortex and vibration sensing beams are combined to yield a final output signal in which the effect of external vibration is reduced.
