Abstract

A method for producing a pyrazolinone compound represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## (wherein, R.sup.1 is a hydrocarbyl group which may be substituted, R.sup.2 is a hydrocarbyl group which may be substituted and Ar is a phenyl group which may be substituted) which comprises reacting a lithium salt of a pyrazolinone compound represented by the formula (II): ##STR2## (wherein, R.sup.1 and Ar have the same meanings as described above) is reacted with a sulfonic acid ester represented by the formula (III):
