Abstract

Glasses for use as substrates for flat panel displays, having a composition consisting essentially of, as calculated in weight percent on an oxide basis, 38-56 SiO.sub.2, 10-28 Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0-4 Li.sub.2 O, 0-6 Na.sub.2 O, 0-15 K.sub.2 O, 4-18 CaO, 0-5 MgO, more than 8 and less than or equal to about 24 SrO, 0-2 ZrO.sub.2, said glass further consisting essentially of Na.sub.2 O+K.sub.2 O in total between about 6 and 18 weight percent.
