Abstract
A rectangular spalling-resistant refractory setter for use in heating furnace, which is made of a material having a bending strength of 1,000 kgf/cm.sup.2 or higher at 1,000-1,300.degree. C. and which has slits extending from each of at least one pair of the parallel sides of the setter toward the opposite side in a length of 15-35% based on the length of each side which is parallel to the slit. A creep-resistant setter which is made of a Si--SiC sintered material containing controlled amounts of impurities and having a controlled porosity. An oxidation-resistant setter which is made of a Si--SiC sintered material containing controlled amounts of impurities and having a controlled porosity. These setters are superior in spalling resistance, creep resistance and oxidation resistance, can mount thereon an increased amount of materials to be fired, and give a higher firing efficiency.
