Abstract

An ergonomic handle design in which the contours of the handle are matched with the anatomy of the hand, taking into account the dynamics of the kinesiology of movement and the physiology of the joints so that muscles are not overtaxed. In the preferred embodiment described, the surface area of the handle is balanced out over the thenar eminance, while its curvatures accommodate the web space between the thumb and the fingers as well as the pads over the metacarpal heads in an efficient manner. The fingers then naturally wrap around the gripping surface of the handle without undue stress on the proximal and interphalangial joints.
