Abstract
The present invention relates to a process for the covalent coating of implants with a bioactive conjugate, which comprises the steps of: a) cleaning a metal implant surface from contaminants by deoxidation with potentiostatic electrochemical polishing in a solution selected from ethanol, perchloric acid-butanol-methanol solution, H.sub.2 O.sub.2 --NaCl--NaH.sub.2 PO.sub.4 or by chemical cleaning with a solution selected from the group consisting of HF/HNO.sub.3, H.sub.2 O.sub.2 /H.sub.2 SO.sub.4 and H.sub.2 O.sub.2 /KOH; b) coating the cleaned implant surface of step a) with a bioactive conjugate, wherein the conjugate has the following structural Formula I:
