Abstract

Disclosed in this specification is a polymeric fluorescent substance which emits a fluorescence in a solid state, contains at least one kind of repeating unit represented by the following formula (1) with the amount of the formula (1) repeating units being at least 50 mole % based on the total repeating units, and has a polystyrene-reduced number-average molecular weight of 10.sup.3 -10.sup.7, characterized in that it has a monofunctional group represented by the following formula (2) at at least one terminal of the molecule:
