Abstract

The detection of fractures in diamonds which are filled with high index of refraction glass is easily and quickly carried out by observation under ultra violet light. Such light having a wavelength between 300 and 400 nm, as reflected from, or transmitted through, such diamonds is imaged using a CCD camera, or directly by the use of fluorescent conversion to the visible spectrum. In either approach, the fracture fills are clearly and immediately distinguishable.
