Abstract
A process for opening C.sub.5 and C.sub.6 rings without substantial cracking. A feedstream containing compounds comprised of at least one C.sub.5 -ring, at least one C.sub.6 -ring, or both, is contacted, in the presence of hydrogen, with a transition metal catalyst selected from the group consisting of carbides, nitrides, oxycarbides, oxynitrides, and oxycarbonitrides. The transition metal is selected from the group consisting of metals from Groups IVa, Va, and VIa of the Periodic Table of the Elements.
