Abstract
A 12 to 30 nucleotide-unit long oligonucleotide that comprises at least one 5-substituted uracil or cytosine, where the 5-substituent is a C.sub.3-6 n-alkyl, a vinyl, a butenyl, an ethynyl, or a C.sub.4-12 n-1-alkynyl, with the proviso that the uracil moiety may not be substituted with an n-alkyl or a C.sub.8-12 n-1-alkynyl.
