Abstract

Provided is a process for producing an aromatic carboxylic acid by oxidizing an aromatic compound having an alkyl group or a partially-oxidized alkyl group with a molecular-oxygen-containing gas in an aqueous medium, characterized in that a compound in which a transition metal is incorporated into a heteropoly-acid skeleton having a deficient structural moiety is used as a catalyst. In accordance with the present invention, the aromatic carboxylic acid can be produced efficiently at low costs.
