Abstract
The present invention provides an article comprising a plurality of silicon carbide containing fibers in an inhibited carbon matrix. The present invention also provides a shaped material for structural applications comprising a plurality of silicon carbide containing fibers in a carbon matrix formed by impregnating said fibers with an organic resin and staging to form a prepreg, shaping and curing said prepreg to form a laminate, carbonizing said shaped laminate to form a carbonized part, and densifying said carbonized part by chemical vapor infiltration to form a component.
