Abstract

Stable colloidal dispersions, in water, of rare earth compounds, e.g., yttric rare earth compounds, are produced by (a) reacting, in an aqueous reaction medium, a rare earth oxide with a controlled effective amount of a monovalent water-soluble acid having a pK.sub.a of from 2.5 to 5.0, and then (b) heating the resulting medium of reaction.
