Diphenyl disulfide compounds having an inhibiting activity against the production of Interleukin-1.beta. (IL-1.beta.) or the release of Tumor Necrosis Factor.alpha. (TNF.alpha.), which are useful in the treatment or prophylaxis of the diseases such as chronic rheumatism and sepsis are described.
