Abstract

An ultraviolet and infrared absorbing glass plate includes a transparent glass substrate, a first layer formed on a first major surface of the glass substrate and a second layer formed on the first layer. The first layer is an ultraviolet and infrared absorbing film prepared by hardening a primer coating solution. The primer coating solution contains a synthetic resin, a fluorescent brightening agent, an ultraviolet absorbing agent and an infrared absorbing agent. The second layer is a film of a siloxane polymer. The glass plate has an optional water-repellent layer formed on a second major surface of the glass substrate. Long-wavelength ultraviolet rays until the upper limit of its wavelength can be substantially cut by the first layer on the glass substrate. Furthermore, the first layer is superior in infrared absorption, adhesion to the glass substrate, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance and durability.
