New arginine derivatives containing an N.sup..alpha. -alkyloxycarbonyl group of formula (I) ##STR1## in which R represents a linear or branched alkyl radical having from 8 to 22 carbon atoms, salts thereof, and mixtures of the derivatives and the salts.
