Abstract

An alkyl dithiocarbamoyl alkanol that has the formula ##STR1## wherein Z is H or OH, Y is N, X is S, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are, selected from the group consisting of H and (C.sub.1 -C.sub.40)hydrocarbon residues R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are selected from the group consisting of H and (C.sub.1 -C.sub.8)hydrocarbon residues, n is 0 to 4, is an intermediate to prepare a borate ester having the formula ##STR2## The borate esters are anti-wear/anti-oxidant/anti-friction/anti-rust additives for lubricating oil.
