Abstract

A liquid crystal device having a pair of substrates opposed to each other at a predetermined distance from each other, and a liquid crystal enclosed between the pair of substrates. The pair of substrates are formed of different materials, and the difference between the thermal expansion coefficients of the substrates is set within the range of .+-.50% of the thermal expansion coefficient of one of the two substrates. Misalignment between the substrates is thereby prevented.
