Abstract

A musical tone signal generating apparatus for electronic musical instrument, comprising; (A) wave storage means for storing specific wave data W.sub.j where 0.ltoreq.j.ltoreq.N-1, and differential wave data .DELTA.WD.sub.n where n=1, 2, . . . N-1 and n.noteq.j, the specific wave data W.sub.j being produced based on specific sampling data D.sub.j, the differential wave data .DELTA.WD.sub.n being obtained by deducting sampling data D.sub.n-1 from sampling data D.sub.n, wherein sampling data D.sub.i consisting of the sample data D.sub.j and D.sub.n are obtained by sampling a musical tone wave at sampling points P.sub.i where i=0, 1, 2, . . . N-1; (B) readout means for consecutively reading out the specific wave data W.sub.j or the differential wave data .DELTA.WD.sub.n from the wave storage means; (C) temporary storage means; (D) decoding means for generating sampling data YD.sub.j and storing the sampling data YD.sub.j in the temporary storage means when the readout means reads out said specific wave data W.sub.j, and for accumulating the differential wave data .DELTA.WD.sub.n in the temporary storage means when the readout means reads out the differential wave data .DELTA.WD.sub.n, thereby to reproduce sampling data YD.sub.n, and, (E) musical tone signal generating means for generating a musical tone signal on the basis of the obtained sampling data YD.sub.j or YD.sub.n.
