Abstract
A magnetooptical recording medium includes a first magnetic layer, in which data is to be stored, and a second magnetic layer, wherein the first magnetic layer is perpendicularly magnetizable at both room temperature and a raised temperature above room temperature, and the second magnetic layer is in-plane magnetizable at room temperature and becomes perpendicularly magnetizable at the raised temperature, which is composed of Gd.sub.x (Fe.sub.100-y Co.sub.y).sub.100-x, where 27.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.31 and 28.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.50.
