Abstract

A nonionic surfactant useful in a cosmetic composition has the formula ##STR1## wherein R is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or alkylaryl radical containing 8-30 carbon atoms; Y is a trivalent radical selected ##STR2## wherein m ranges from 1 to 20; X is --O--, --S-- or --S.dbd.O; p, q and v represent 0 or 1 with the proviso that the sum p+q.dbd.0 or 1; and with the further provisos that when Y is ##STR3## R is a saturated linear aliphatic radical and when Y is ##STR4## and p.dbd.1, v is 0; A represents .brket close-st.C.sub.2 H.sub.3 O(CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.2 --CHOH--CH.sub.2 OH).brket open-st..sub.a H and B represents .brket close-st.C.sub.2 H.sub.3 O(CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.2 CHOH--CH.sub.2 OH).brket open-st..sub.b H wherein a+b.dbd.n and n ranges from 1.5 to 8.
