A skin antiseptic and hand disinfectant composition is disclosed. The composition comprises a glycerol monoalkyl ether is a glycerol 1-C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 alkyl ether and an aliphatic C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl alcohol.
