Abstract
A magnetic tape cassette reel spring of ferromagnetic material such as mild steel with yield strength slightly greater than 100,000 psi coated with a impervious layer. Alloy steel and AISI constructional steels are also suitable. The coating inhibits contamination of the magnetic tape and may include nickel plate, zinc plate, lacquer, paint, varnish and polymer coatings. A method includes coating a steel sheet, slitting the sheet and stamping the spring configuration from the slit strips of the sheet.
