Abstract

There is disclosed a fire-retardant resin composition, comprising a polypropylene-series resin (a), a modified polyethylene modified with an unsaturated carboxylic acid or its derivative (b), a metal hydrate (c), and an ethylene-series copolymer (d), in a specific ratio; and an electric wire with a cover layer formed on the circumference of a conductor, in which the cover layer is composed of a composition prepared by blending (c) a metal hydrate with, in a specific ratio, a resin mixture, containing (a) a polypropylene-series resin, (b) a modified polyethylene, and (d) an ethylene-series copolymer. The fire-retardant resin composition is excellent in tensile strength, heat resistance, extrudability, and moldability. The covered electric wire is excellent in electric-wire properties and good in the end workability.
