Abstract

There is disclosed a novel surface-active compound, and a silver halide photographic material and a processing solution for a silver halide photographic material containing the same. The surface-active compound is represented by the following formula (I): ##STR1## Wherein R.sup.1 represents an aliphatic group, an alicyclic compound group, an aromatic group, or a heterocyclic ring; R.sup.2 represents an aliphatic group, an alicyclic compound group, an aromatic group, a heterocyclic ring, or a group represented by --L--Z; Q.sup.1, Q.sup.2, and Q.sup.3 each represent a single bond, an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, or a group represented by --N(R.sup.3)--, in which R.sup.3 represents a hydrogen atom or a group represented by R.sup.2 ; L represents a divalent linking group; and Z represents an ionic group.
