Abstract
A process for the preparation of 1,2-benzisothiazoles of formula I ##STR1## wherein X is in any one of the 4 possible positions of the benzene ring and is hydrogen, halogen, nitro, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, halo-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkenyloxy or C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkynyloxy, in which process a compound of formula II ##STR2## wherein X is as defined for formula I and R.sub.1 is hydrogen or an unsubstituted or substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 hydrocarbon radical, is reacted in the presence of a catalytic amount of a strong acid. Compounds of formula I are known as pesticides, especially as nematicides.
