An internal combustion engine with a supercharger, of a reciprocating piston type, having a supercharger disposed in an intake passage, wherein the relation of a pressure ratio (.gamma.=P/Po) of pressure (P) on the discharge side of the supercharger to atmospheric pressure (Po) at the time of high load with a geometric compression ratio (.epsilon.) of the engine and a cylinder bore size (B), represented by millimeter, satisfies the following formula:
