Abstract
A process for preparing o-chloromethylbenzoyl chlorides of the formula I ##STR1## where m is 0 or an integer from 1 to 4 and X is halogen or C-organic radicals, entails reacting a corresponding lactone of the formula II ##STR2## with thionyl chloride in the presence of a catalyst.
