Abstract

A supported metal catalyst for the hydrogenation of oils and fats is obtained by causing a porous carriers to interact with an Ni and Cu containing solution in a molar ratio of Ni/Cu comprised within the range of from 1 to 8, and subsequently treating the resulting solid reaction product, after preliminary drying and calcination, with a flowing hydrogen stream at a temperature comprised within the range of from 200.degree. to 600.degree. C.
