Abstract

A silver halide photographic element having a light sensitive silver halide which layer also contains a 2-equivalent pyrazolone magenta coupler, a compound of formula (S) below, and a hydroquinone compound of formula (R) below: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1 is an alkyl group; and R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently an alkyl group or H. The presence of the compound (S) when used with the two-equivalent pyrazolone magenta coupler and compound (R), can result in low magenta dye fade, increased wavelength of maximum absorption of the magenta dye and increased magenta dye bandwidth.
