Abstract

A lightweight portable podium is provided for use in lectures and other speaking events. The podium rests on a table or desk and has an inclined shelf which forms the upper surface on which notes and papers can readily repose. The shelf is screened from public view and protected from wind by a main panel that forms the front of the podium and two side panels. The four pieces that comprise the podium are substantially flat and can be readily disassembled into a flat unit for storage or transit. The upper edge of the shelf is captured by two channels formed between the main and side panels. For disassembly the shelf is first pivoted to be parallel to the main panel. It is then slidden in the channels in a downward direction into contact with the main panel. The two side panels are then folded in over the shelf/main panel combination to form a flat, thin unit for storage or transit.
