Abstract

Aminomethylenated glutaconic acid dinitriles of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently of one another represent hydrogen, straight-chain or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 -alkenyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 -alkoxyalkyl, C.sub.4 -C.sub.8 -alkoxyalkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 -cycloalkyl, C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 -aryl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.10 -aralkyl or a 5- to 8-membered, saturated or unsaturated heterocyclic ring containing 1 or 2 heteroatoms from the group comprising N, O and S, are obtained by reacting 3-amino-acrylonitriles of the formula ##STR2## in which the radicals R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 have the meaning mentioned, with one another at from 0.degree. to 100.degree. C. in the presence of at least 0.5 equivalents of an acidic compound.
