Abstract
A composition comprising thymol and eugenol, and optionally a sesquiterpene alcohol, such as, farnesol or has been found to have plaque and gingivitis effect. Flavoring agents may be included to provide an organoleptically acceptable oral product. Australian Tea Tree oil, sage oil and eucalyptol were found to enhance the antiplaque and antigingivitis activity of mouthrinses formulated from these compositions. These compositions exhibit an antibacterial effect vs. A. viscosus of about 25 MIC or less.
