Abstract
A process is disclosed for the preparation of an essentially tetramer-free, essentially stroma-free, cross-linked, polymerized, pyridoxylated hemoglobin which comprises separating red blood cell stroma from blood by means of heat treating step to remove stromal contaminants and filtration or centrifugation or both, pyridoxylating, polymerizing, and removing essentially all of the remaining unmodified tetramer.
