Disclosed is a silver halide photographic material containing a compound of formula (1) or (2): ##STR1## where DYE represents a methine dye residue; G and G.sup.- each represent a substituent for the methine dye residue, and are represented by formulae (3) and (4), respectively; and n represents an integer of from 1 to 6.
