A magneto-optical recording medium comprising, on a substrate, at least a first magnetic layer made of a rare earth amorphous alloy and a second magnetic layer made of a rare earth amorphous alloy having a relatively smaller coercivity Hc.sub.2 than that of the first magnetic layer, wherein the following relationship is satisfied at an operation temperature:
