Abstract
Lubricant or lubricant additives comprising copolymers of .alpha.-.beta.-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid esters and .alpha.-olefins. When the olefin to ester ratio is 0.5 to 4.0 the .alpha.-olefins may have 10-16 C-atoms and the .alpha.-.beta.-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid is esterified with straight-chain and/or branched monoalcohol of 3-10 carbon atoms. When the ratio is less than 2.0 the .alpha.-olefin is C.sub.16 and the esterifying component may be C.sub.4 -C.sub.10 alcohol. The copolymers are useful as synthetic lubricating oils, mineral oil additives, lubricant additives and as lubricants for the shaping treatment of thermoplastic plastics.
