Abstract

Polyhydroxypolyethers as low foam surfactants comprising a compound of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a linear or branched C.sub.2 - to C.sub.18 -alkylene radical; R.sup.2 is H, ##STR2## R.sup.3, R.sup.4 are linear or branched C.sub.2 to C.sub.18 alkyl radicals; Z is a number of from 1 to 3; with the proviso that at least one R.sup.2 is ##STR3## n is a number of from 2 to 8; m is a number of from 15 to 34; and l is a number of from 0 to 3. These compounds are useful in cleaning compositions and rinse aids which are low foaming and biodegradable.
