Abstract
In case of a color original where both graphics and text are present, tone processing is executed by combining a multi-value dither matrix control using a 2.times.2 dot dispersion threshold matrix where 64 non-consecutive threshold values are assigned to each dot of the 2.times.2 matrix. Dots are darkened accordingly if an input value is equal to or greater than a threshold value for a particular quadrant of the 2.times.2 matrix.
