Abstract

A method and apparatus is provided for retrieving time-series information so as to permit a user to readily retrieve non-numeric data such as character sequence information. The system provides for a prediction system to take into consideration such non-numeric data in association with retrieval result. In the system, a transition graph of the time-series data is displayed, a prediction result is determined based on determined time-series information, and a representation as to validity of a prediction to actual data is displayed on the graph. When a user enters a desired time point, news and event occurrences at that time point are retrieved from an event database and they are displayed in a designated area. Thus, the non-numeric information, such as news, which has occurred at a prediction miss point can be reflected to a prediction rule during a subsequent prediction.
